A WOONONA girl has proved that she is one of the top Ten Pin Bowlers in the country playing through serious injury to place 3rd in the Classic-Cup division of the National Australian Junior Championships this month.

Earlier in the year Ashleigh and her bowling team scored two first-place rankings in the Southern NSW leg of the competition.

Ashleigh had made it to the national competition before, but never come anywhere near placing.

She said that this year's competition worked to her advantage because the Melbourne alley that hosted the championships had wooden lanes, which she prefers to the synthetic kind.

Despite her confidence, Ashleigh was surprised to do so well in the competition.

The morning of the finals she woke up with a very sore neck, which she couldn't move at all for the duration of the day.

Even with this major setback the Woonona High School student managed to get the highest scoring game in the finals, before her overall score brought her standing down to third.

Ashleigh has been bowling for about 6 years, and currently has a Bowling average of 171.

Ashleigh's southern NSW team came third overall, and to make it to the singles finals she had place well in the teams, doubles and singles events.

A very large trophy celebrating Ashleigh's win now adorns the wall of Northern Ten Pin Bowl, in Corrimal.
