SCHOOL SPORT

The region's top public school representatives were recognised at the recent prestigious South Coast School Sports Association luncheon with local athletes figuring prominently.

At primary level, Taylah Davies from Thirroul Public School took out the major award, the Sid Hayes Trophy for the Most Outstanding all-round representative in School Sport, and Mt Pleasant's Alexandra Sinadinovic won the Most Outstanding Individual Performance for swimming. Taylah and Alexandra also collected Primary Blues awards.

Brilliant Illawarra Sports HS student, Ryan Gregson from Bulli took home a Secondary Blues Award and was one of two recipients to receive an Integral Energy Scholarship.

TOUCH

It has been a stellar year for the Wollongong Women's U20 touch team.

Already with the Country, Sydney and Regional titles safely tucked away, the girls completed the year by taking out the State Cup at Port Macquarie.

Jess McCall from Towradgi took out the player of the final and received excellent support from other locals, Nicole Beck, Rachel Beck and Alana Ferguson (Bulli), Cara Zaremski, Stephanie Jackson and Kaitlyn Emery (Woonona), Chenay Bailey (Thirroul) and Kobi Ruzzene (Balgownie)

GOLF

Eighteen of Australia's top female professional golfers descended on the Russell Vale Golf Course recently to compete for the inaugural Russell Vale Challenge Cup.

The winner was Katherine Hull who has just returned from the United States. She said it was an honour to win this event and was looking forward to defending her title next year.

Conditions were ideal for the event according to club pro Steven McRae.

Finally did you know that in the recent Trans Tasman rugby league game between Australia and New Zealand, the rule to play the ball with your foot was ignored on no less than 71 occasions, 38 by the Kiwis and 33 by the Aussies.
