nother one bites the dust for Distributor
The Woonona Bulli Vet was demolished earlier this month to make way for the Northern Distributor.
ANOTHER Princes Highway business house has made way for the extension of the Northern Distributor at Bulli.
The Woonona Bulli Veterinary Surgery (pictured) was rased earlier this month bringing the number of commercial premises demolished along the highway between Molloy St and Farrell Rd to four Bob Fulton's Bulli Furniture, Gavin Woolmer's Northern Image Picture Framing and Eric Blain's real estate office and residence.
The veterinary surgery will relocate to new premises in Railway St Bulli later this year. The old surgery, on the corner of Molloy St, was built as a barber shop in the 1970s and has traded as a vet for the past 20 years.
The crowd later besieged the Corrimal office of Minister for the Illawarra David Campbell, who agreed to facilitate a meeting with the Roads Minister.
The 3km Northern Distributor extension includes the construction of a four-lane dual carriageway from Bellambi Lane to Molloy Street at Bulli.
Mr Campbell said the project was designed to improve road safety, travel times and access to Wollongong's northern suburbs.
An RTA policy stipulates that its Bellambi unit cannot undertake work projects over $20 million.
But Mr Phillips said RTA workers had built the existing stretch of the Northern Distributor in the past and deserved to be included in the construction of the latest section.
"There's a lot of pride in RTA workers," he said.
"We built the first two sections of the road and we want to complete the job."
As a compromise, Mr Phillips said regional RTA employees wanted to construct the section of road from Bellambi Lane to Park Road.
"That's a flat stretch and it goes right past our Bellambi depot," he said.
"There's no way that we are going to let someone else do the work at our own front gate."
