Masters Championship
Illawarra Branch competitors were well represented at the National Masters Championships held prior to the Open Championships at Kurrawa and they didn't let anyone down bringing home three gold, five silver and two bronze for a total 10 medals.
Fairy Meadow was the pick of a healthy crop winning four medals, one gold, one silver and two bronze.
Not far behind was Windang with two gold and a silver, Wollongong City two silver and Austinmer one silver.
Gold winners were: 35 39 years ski Michael Locke (F/M): Silver: 30 34 surf race Trudi Barnes (F/M): 120 years surf boat Austinmer Blue.
Bronze: O40 malibu long board Rob Lumby (F/M): 55 59 rescue tube Jeff Banks (F/M).
Others to finish in the top four were Fiona Hunt (Coalcliff) in the 40 44 surf race and Jeff Banks (F/M) in the 55 59 ironman. Fifth spots were filled by Ian Timbrell (F/M) 35 39 ski: Penny Locke (F/M) 30 39 ski, Fiona Hunt (Coalcliff) 40 44 ironwoman, board and rescue tube, Valoria Crick (Woonona) 45 49 beach sprint, Austinmer White 120 years surf boat. We also filled a half a dozen top six places with Bulli A in the 140 years surf boat, Cade Barnes (F/M) 30 34 ski; Ian Timbrell and Michael Locke (F/M) 30 34 double ski, Noel Gracie (F/M) 50 54 surf race; and Raymond Wylie (Bellambi) 40 44 beach flags.
National Championships
Helensburgh/Stanwell Park Girls Under 15s relay team won a silver medal at the recent Australian Championshiops at Kurrawa, Qld.
The club won five medals at the titles - two gold, two silver and one bronze.
The Leader will highlight their achievements in a special pictorial feature in next week's edition.
Tiarne Blackwell, Brooke Dent, Laura Mercer and Chanay Mercer from the Helensburgh/Stanwell Park beach relay team - Silver medalists at the Australian Championships in Qld.
